Put all your Trust in the One who is Trustworthy!

James D. Acree, pastor and author, shared this shocking true story regarding the object of our faith.
In April 1988 the evening news reported on a photographer who was a skydiver. He had jumped from a plane along with numerous other skydivers and filmed the group as they fell and opened their parachutes. On the film shown on the telecast, as the final skydiver opened his chute, the picture went berserk. The announcer reported that the cameraman had fallen to his death, having jumped out of the plane without a parachute. It wasn’t until he reached for the absent ripcord that he realized he was freefalling without a parachute.
Until that point, the jump probably seemed exciting and fun. But tragically, he had acted with thoughtless haste and deadly foolishness. Nothing could save him, for his faith was in a parachute never buckled on.
Faith in anything but an all-sufficient God can be just as tragic spiritually. Only with faith in Jesus Christ dare we step into the dangerous excitement of life.
People put their faith in many different sources – their job, the government, a family member or trusted friend, even themselves. But as James Acree pointed out, faith in anything apart from the Lord will be catastrophic. Does it make sense to trust your eternity to any other source? Your job, the government, a loved one, or yourself? You will find that, at the crucial moment you are desperate for help, you are reaching for a parachute ripcord that is not there. Please don’t let that be your tragic experience.
As Edward Mote worded it in his beautiful hymn, “The Solid Rock”: “On Christ the solid Rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.” Everything and everyone else will be as substantial as quicksand. So put all your faith and trust in the Lord. He is the only one that is completely reliable.
Hebrews 13:8 declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” The author of Hebrews also explains it this way (12:26-27), “At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, ‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.’ The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken —that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.” In a world that is shaking and rocking and rolling, Jesus is the only One who cannot be shaken, so we must put All our faith and trust in Him.
The Lord has always been, and will always be, faithful and in control. He is Large and in Charge! I declare every morning in my devotions, “Lord, You reign supreme. You are Lord over heaven and earth. Nothing is too hard for You. No one is above You. And there is nothing You cannot do! So please let faith rise up in my heart to believe You for great things and to receive great things.” May faith rise up in each and every one of our hearts. Amen!
