An Omaha television station (wowt.com/2024/02/28/elkhorn-soldier-surprises-kids-school-upon-early-return-deployment/) shared this recent true story of a soldier returning home early to surprise his twin children at their school.
For the majority of us, Tuesday was just a regular day. But for the Wobig family, it was so much more.
“I’m with the Army National Guard, I’ve been gone a little over nine months, and I’m here to surprise my 7-year-old twins,” said Maj. Timothy Wobig, standing in the front entrance of Elkhorn’s Blue Sage Elementary school, minutes before seeing his kids.
Wobig returned home from the Middle East about a month ahead of schedule, and he and his wife, Katie, immediately knew it would be the perfect opportunity to surprise the kids, Lila and Roman, at school.
With big moments like these, come big emotions.
“To be honest, I’m more comfortable walking through the streets of Afghanistan than I am standing here in the school right now waiting to say hi to my kids that I haven’t seen in so long,” he said. “Just because they’re so special.”
Tim and Katie walk hand-in-hand down the halls at Blue Sage on the way to the second-grade classrooms.
…The first to be surprised is Lila. After turning around and seeing her dad, the tearful 7-year-old gives the hug that they’ve both been waiting months for.
…Just across the hall in the next second-grade classroom is Lila’s unsuspecting brother, Roman.
“How about this, how about you get your stuff, and I’m going to go say hi to your brother,” Wobig said to Lila.
It didn’t take long for the next class to realize there’s a servicemember in their classroom. Roman jumped from his spot on the floor and leapt into Wobig’s arms.
“How’d you get so big?” a joyfully tearful Wobig asked.
The family of four, finally reunited. Mom says the surprise was worth it.
“Just seeing the joy in your kids’ eyes and, you know, being there to support my husband as well, it was surreal. Nothing can prepare you for that moment,” Katie Wobig said.
Eyes welling up, Lila told 6 News she was “happy” when she saw her dad, and Roman said he “had to double check” to see if it was really him.
What a thrill it must have been for Lila and Roman to finally see their dad again. But an even greater return and reunion is still on the horizon. Jesus is Coming Soon, and everything will change! What now is wrong will be made right. What now is upside down will be put right side up. The first time Jesus came in humility – born to a peasant family in a stable and laid in a manger. But when He comes again, He will catch His Bride away. He will come in power and authority, riding a white horse and leading His victorious army behind Him, to rule and reign forevermore!
This Sunday, June 2, we will continue our teaching series that asks the question, “Who is Jesus?” This week’s answer? “Jesus is Coming Soon!” Please invite someone to join you at 10:35am in the building or online for the Live broadcast on either Facebook (HonoluluAG) or our YouTube channel (Honolulu Assembly of God). We livestream every Sunday to both locations and would love to have you join us.
Coming Up: Our next “Drive-Through Prayer” outreach in the church parking lot is this Saturday, June 1, from 11am-1pm. We will celebrate all Dads with a gift on June 16, Father’s Day, and Pastor Ron Peer will be our guest speaker.
Aloha ke Akua!
