C. Philip Green (pastor of Faith Bible Church in Lyons, KS) shared this true story in his sermon entitled “Disappointed Dreamer”.
In 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin picked the number one followed by 100 zeroes while they were still graduate students at Stanford University. That number in mathematical terms is called a googol, and that became the name of their new enterprise. Today, Google operates the largest search engine in the world with internet users performing hundreds of millions searches a day.
Jim Reese, chief operations engineer of Google, said this about Brin and Page: “It takes a lot of confidence and courage to go ahead and do that [i.e., to be that big]. It’s rare to find people who think on such a grand scale and are able to create a great product at the same time” (FreshMinistry.org, 11-5-02).
Google’s founders were dreamers, and that’s what it takes to accomplish great things. It takes a great dream to do great things, and that’s true not only in business but also in the ministry to which God has called us.
What dreams has God put inside your heart? What difference do you want to make? How do you want to make your world a better place? Who do you want to take to heaven with you? Don’t limit what God wants to do in and through you. Unleash your imagination! Start dreaming! Ask and keep on asking, and see what the Lord will do for you.
What adventure awaits you today? This week? Or has your Christian experience become dull and predictable? Do you wake up each day and wonder what new thing the Lord is going to do in your life and through your life? Or have you settled for the “same old, same old”?
How can we tell when there’s an absence of faith in our life? We stop believing in the impossible, and we settle for living a small life. We get comfortable with the same old routine but miss out on the miracles the Lord wants to accomplish in and through us. May our prayer ever be, “Lord, please help me not to stand in the way of what You want to do!”
The Lord is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or even imagine! When you get to the limits of your imagination, the Lord is just getting started! He doesn’t do the minimum; He goes above and beyond! You can put All your faith and trust in Him. It will be well placed.
This Sunday, February 6, we will be challenged to “Imagine!” In Ephesians 3:20-21, the Apostle Paul makes this declaration: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (emphasis added).
In the book of Acts, we see Christians making the commitment to join together regularly, even daily, for worship. They realized they needed relationships with both the Lord and one another. It is good to be able to worship the Lord online, but it is even better if you can do so in person! I look forward to seeing you this Sunday.
The next Drive-Thru Prayer outreach is this Saturday. (This event happens on the first Saturday of every month.) Last month a man and his adult son were driving around town looking for a church that offered prayer. The son had a desperate need and we were there to pray for them. What will happen this month?
