Decisions

Some years ago Craig Brian Larson (pastor, author and long-time editor of Christianity Today’s preaching resources) shared this interesting true story.

Recently National Geographic ran an article about the Alaskan bull moose. The males of the species battle for dominance during the fall breeding season, literally going head-to-head with antlers crunching together as they collide. Often the antlers, their only weapon are broken. That ensures defeat.

The heftiest moose, with the largest and strongest antlers, triumphs. Therefore, the battle fought in the fall is really won during the summer, when the moose eat continually. The one that consumes the best diet for growing antlers and gaining weight will be the heavyweight in the fight. Those that eat inadequately sport weaker antlers and less bulk.

There is a lesson here for us. Spiritual battles await. Satan will choose a season to attack. Will we be victorious, or will we fall? Much depends on what we do now – before the wars begin. The bull-moose principle: Enduring faith, strength, and wisdom for trials are best developed before they’re needed.

What choices are you making today that will benefit you tomorrow and the next day? Hopefully, you are making good decisions about your health, finances and more. Most important, what decisions are you making today to strengthen your spiritual life and ensure continuous growth?

When you became a Christian, Jesus Christ transformed your life. Now He is available to live His life in you (Galatians 2:20) and that will make a profound difference in your life.

But the Bible also teaches us that we have decisions to make, often times hard decisions. Are you making those decisions? Are you choosing to say No! to those things that will satisfy your sinful nature? Are you saying Yes! to those things that will help you grow spiritually, to become more like Jesus?

Randy Hurst, advancement director for Assemblies of God World Missions, put it this way. “God will do for you what you cannot do. But He will not do for you what you can do.” So make the decisions that will strengthen you spiritually and help you grow to become more like Jesus. The Holy Spirit will help make it happen, but you need to be willing to say Yes! to Him. Make the choices today that will continue to make a difference for you tomorrow.

This Sunday, July 11, we will begin a new teaching series entitled, “Choices”, in the 10:35am worship service. We start this week with “A Maze of Choices”: Choose to Serve the Lord; Choose the Spirit-filled Life; and Choose to Worship the Lord. Please don’t miss it!

If you are not able to join us in-person in the building at 10:35am for the worship service, please join us Online for the Live broadcast on Facebook (Search: Honolulu AG). The recording will also be uploaded later that day to our website (honoluluag.org) and YouTube channel (Search: Honolulu Assembly of God).

Update: The roof here at Honolulu Assembly of God needs some TLC (tender loving care). It is leaking in a few places and has been patched and re-patched, but now it needs to be replaced. The work is scheduled for the beginning of September. Thankfully, the Lord has been generous to Honolulu AG and has provided ahead of time. I had hoped to move ahead on a few other big projects but the roof has become our #1 priority. Other needs? As our congregation is getting older, the church Board is also considering ways to provide better access to the upper level, specifically the Fellowship Hall. Other upcoming projects involve changes to the sanctuary and hopefully painting the building. We will also be fixing or replacing the church van. Mahalo to you our generous givers; you are making a difference!

Aloha and Aloha ke Akua!
