Celebrating Mom!

Here is some humor about Mom in honor of this Sunday’s Mother’s Day celebration.

My mother taught me LOGIC:“ If you fall off that swing and break your neck, you can’t go to the store with me.”

My mother taught me BIOLOGY: “If you don’t stop crossing your eyes, they’re going to freeze that way.”

My mother taught me TO THINK AHEAD: “If you don’t pass your spelling test, you’ll never get a job.”

My mother taught me HUMOR: “When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don’t come running to me.”

My mother taught me how to BECOME AN ADULT: "If you don’t eat your vegetables, you’ll never grow up.”

My mother taught me about GENETICS: “You are just like your father!”

My mother taught me about my ROOTS: “Do you think you were born in a barn?”

My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION: “Just wait until your father gets home.”

My mother taught me about JUSTICE: “One day you will have kids, and I hope they turn out just like YOU. Then you’ll see what it’s like.”

There is a story about four pastors who were discussing the merits of the various translations of the Bible. One liked the King James Version best because of its familiar wording. Another liked the New American Standard Bible best because it is more literal and comes nearer to the original Hebrew and Greek. Still another liked the New International Version best because of its up-to-date vocabulary.

The fourth pastor was silent. When asked about his opinion, he replied, “I like my mother’s translation best.”

The other three expressed surprise. They did not know his mother had translated the Bible.

“Yes, she did,” the man replied. “She translated it into Life, and it was the most convincing translation I ever saw.”

Susannah Wesley (1669-1742) birthed 19 children and spent one hour each day praying for all of them. In addition, she took each child aside for one full hour every week to discuss spiritual matters. What commitment! It is no wonder that two of her sons, John and Charles Wesley, were used of God to bring revival to all of England and much of America.

Modeling the Christian life and praying for your children can make an eternal difference in their lives.

This Sunday, May 10, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. Shirley Ashpole will share powerful truth about Leah the wife of Jacob that you won’t want to miss, plus a gift will be given to all women. Please invite someone to join you in the building or online for the Live broadcast on either Facebook (Honolulu AG) or our YouTube channel (Honolulu Assembly of God). We Livestream every Sunday to both locations and would love to have you join us.

Coming Up: Pentecost Sunday is May 24 and we will celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at the birth of the church (Acts 2). June 21 is Father’s Day and Hinden Alexander will be our special speaker.

Aloha ke Akua!
