Chosen Children

One of my favorite Bible teachers right now is Max Lucado. This year I’m reading his daily devotional, God Is With You Every Day. Here are Max's thoughts from May 8, entitled "Chosen Children".

"But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12 NLT).

Adopted children are chosen children.

That's not the case with biological children. When the doctor handed Max Lucado to Jack Lucado, my dad had no exit option. No loophole. No choice. He couldn't give me back to the doctor and ask for a better-looking or smarter son. The hospital made him take me home.

But if you were adopted, your parents chose you.

Surprise pregnancies happen. But surprise adoptions? Never heard of one. Your parents could have picked a different gender, color, or ancestry. But they selected you. They wanted you in their family.

You object: "Oh, but if they could have seen the rest of my life, they might have changed their minds." My point exactly.

God saw our entire lives from beginning to end, birth to hearse, and in spite of what he saw, he was still convinced "to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure" (Ephesians 1:5 NLT).

We can now live "like God’s very own children, adopted into the bosom of his family—calling him 'Father, Father.' . . . And since we are his children, we will share his treasures—for everything God gives to his Son Jesus is now ours, too" (Romans 8:15, 17 TLB).

It really is this simple. (Grace)

Think of it: You are chosen by God, the Ruler of the Universe! You didn't fall into His lap by accident; He's not stuck with you. He deliberately chose you to be His precious Son and Daughter. What a privilege!

That should change the way you see yourself and how you live your life. You are not a mistake or a mishap. You are royalty, part of His divine family and partaker of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4).

He created you. He redeemed you. And He chose you to be His own!

Live your heavenly inheritance!

Walk in your heavenly birthright!

You are loved and you can love others!
