A Christian's Declaration of Independence

We celebrate this week our nation's 243rd birthday.

Wow!

What a milestone worth celebrating!

I thank the Lord for the freedom we have as Americans. We are blessed to live in this great country and to enjoy the blessings of freedom that were set in motion by the Declaration of Independence from England's rule.

Did you know that, as Christians, we also have a Declaration of Independence?

It is quite the paradox (two seemingly contradictory concepts that are both true) that, in Christ, we have both Freedom and Slavery. In order to become truly Independent, we must become absolutely Dependent upon Jesus Christ. In order to become truly free, we must become a slave to Christ.

When we become dependent upon Christ, then we become absolutely free from the old life and old ways that try to control us.

Make these "Declarations of Independence" part of your life.

I am free from Weakness, for "The Lord is the strength of my life"

I am free from the Power of Satan,

for "Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world"

I am free from Defeat,

for "God always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ"

I am free from the Curse of Sin,

for "the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin"

1 John 1:7.

I am free from Worry,

for I can "Cast all (my) cares upon Him, for He cares for (me)"

1 Peter 5:7.

I am free from Bondage,

for "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom

2 Corinthians 3:17.

I am free from Condemnation,

for "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit"

Romans 8:1.

Galatians 5:1 declares, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
