Our History

How did we get here?

A Dream

Honolulu Assembly of God was begun in 1974 by founding pastor, Harold Headrick. He was not only a pastor but also had a background in construction and a heart to build churches. At his memorial service, it was announced he had been involved in the construction of almost 100 church buildings in Hawaii, the Mainland, and throughout the Pacific. He started and pastored several churches here in Hawaii, including Honolulu Assembly of God.

The Early Years

Soon after the church’s founding, property was purchased on the corner of Koko Head Street and Pahoa Avenue in Kaimuki. The building originally was a school but was converted into a place of worship and eventually enlarged to the current building.

Changes

Harold Headrick’s long pastorate lasted until 2001 when he retired and moved to the mainland. At that time, Dean Reid was elected to be the second pastor and continued until 2012 when he retired and Bryan Ashpole, current pastor, began his ministry here.
